Med-D: Decentralized Medical Application

Introduction

Med-D is a decentralized medical data management system designed to address the challenges of sharing and managing health records across hospitals in Thailand. The platform leverages blockchain technology to enhance privacy, security, and efficiency. By empowering patients with a mobile wallet application to store and control their medical records, Med-D eliminates reliance on centralized systems, reducing the risks of data breaches and simplifying the transfer of medical information between hospitals.

Key Features

Blockchain-Based Record Verification: Ensures record authenticity without centralized storage, reducing the risk of data breaches.

Mobile Wallet Application: Enables patients to securely store, view, and share verified medical records directly from their devices.

Hospital Integration Website: Simplifies the transfer of medical records between hospitals and patients, ensuring seamless connectivity.

User-Friendly UI: Designed using Figma, prioritizing accessibility and ease of use for managing medical records.

Development and Innovation

Compliance with Data Regulations: Research ensured adherence to HIPAA, PDPA, and GDPR for secure handling of personal health data.

Core Technologies: Incorporated blockchain, Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs), Verifiable Credentials (VCs), and self-sovereign identity to enhance privacy and interoperability.

Business Model: Proposed a subscription-based plan for hospitals at 25,000 THB per month, balancing user value with financial sustainability.

Workflow and Database Design: Mapped user interactions and designed schemas to integrate with blockchain for data decentralization and immutability.

Impact and Future Directions

The Med-D system provides a secure and efficient way to manage and share medical data, reducing dependency on centralized systems and empowering patients with control over their health records. Future directions include:

  • Expanding features such as appointment scheduling and AI-driven health diagnostics.
  • Further refining the blockchain ecosystem and usability.
  • Scaling adoption to more hospitals and healthcare providers across Thailand.
  • The Med-D project has the potential to transform Thailand's healthcare system by improving data accessibility, privacy, and patient-centered care.
